Artist Catch-Up: Krys Kinsel from Zineville
Krys Kinsel has always been the artsy type. She started selling hand made comics during lunch in high school to buy chupa chips and still makes comics. Krys stays busy with being the host of Zineville, an immersive youtube channel about zines, art projects and getting their community excited about zines.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO SINCE WE LAST HEARD FROM YOU?
Aw, geez, let see. I started a youtube channel about my favorite subject - zines, created a zine fair in Lynchburg, made more mini zines. I'm designing a tarot deck and still making comics.
TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF ZINES IN THE COMMUNITY.
Zines can do more in a compact format than a 1 hour lecture can. Condensing and distilling knowledge to its facts (while making it interesting and eye catching) can reach every single person in every single demographic. Teachers can use them to boost knowledge on subjects, Healthcare professionals can share information on serious conditions, community-based organizations can spread their message.
Also, they can be super affordable to print and distribute. I could do a whole TED talk on this subject!
HOW DID YOUR PREVIOUS PUBLIC ART PROJECT IMPACT YOUR WORK?
I have worked on murals in the past and love seeing people enjoy and take pride in their community's art initiatives. Public art is extremely important and I love being part of that!
WHAT’S BEEN INSPIRING YOU LATELY?
I have been inspired by limited color palettes and Risograph printing as of late. Liminal spaces, Meow Wolf art installations and music made by plants. Also, going to Zine fairs and meeting new art friends!
DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW PROJECTS COMING UP?
Yes! Always! Other than new episodes on the channel, I am putting together a cool zine fair at Three Roads Brewery on November 5!
We named it Garden Gnome Zine and Art Fair and I am pretty darn proud of it! Some swell people are tabling and we are creating a fun community to share with all y'all!
