Clyde Trent - Photographer
For Clyde Trent, photography is an accumulation of learning to see the beauty that exists within all things. The photographic experience has given me a set of tools to render ordinary subjects into extraordinary color, form and texture. From traditional types of imagery to abstract visions, I attempt with all my images to express my personal insight into the natural world and show things which may not be readily visible to the casual observer. It may be finding beauty in the imperfections of nature or accepting the natural cycle of growth and aging of all things within our environment, reminding us that we are just transient beings in a world of beauty regardless of where one look.

When did you know you wanted to be an artist?
I started visiting on a regular basic art shows and galleries around 1996. At that point viewing all the various art mediums and the quality of work I decided I wanted to be part of the art scene. I challenged myself to produce quality work in my medium of photography in order that i may participate . I think that was the time I decided I wanted to be an Artist. I have always considered photography as art, if presented properly.
How does your personal story/background influence your work?
I have always loved being outdoors and I have always loved the wonders of nature. Nature has a story to tell from macro images to expansive panoramics. Photography provided a platform to capture what i was seeing and sometimes feeling. This combination merged both my love of photography and nature. Living near the Blue Ridge Parkway made photographing nature a lot more convenient.
Which of your works are you most proud of?
Black and White film photography will always be me my favorite, in addition The Wabi-Sabi Series and the Water Series. Both of these series are comprised of both film and digital prints.
What is the hardest part about being a professional artist?
I try not to overload myself , keeping photography fun works better for me. I limit myself to the number of yearly exhibitions. I select exhibitions based on maximum exposure.
What artists inspire you?
Gordon Parks, Ansel Adams and others.
What advice would you give aspiring artists who come from minority or under-represented groups?
Work hard and provide quality work. Do not shy away from exhibition opportunities at the same time do not over expose yourself.
