When did you know you wanted to be an artist?

Age 15

How does your personal story/background influence your work?

As a teenager, I was drawn to the iconoclastic music of George Clinton and Funkadelic. Like most people, when I reached adulthood I settled for conformity. Now in my 50s, I am dusting off the dreams of my youth.

Which of your works are you most proud of?

The "Get Downtown" song and music video, because of how it energized the Lynchburg downtown community.

What is the hardest part about being a professional artist?

Finding ways to get your creative project to an audience, and getting compensated fairly for it.

What artists inspire you?

George Clinton (Parliment/Funkadelic) and Kanye West.

What advise would you give aspiring artists who come from minority or other under-represented groups?

To make universal musical or film that transcends to all people.
