First Annual Winterlights on the Bluffwalk (2016)
In 2016, the Arts Council created the first annual "Winterlights on the Bluffwalk" event, a project to create vibrant, temporary public art that illuminates the Bluffwalk in mid-to-late winter, attracting visitors to visit downtown by car or on foot from the hour of dusk, 4 PM, until 10 PM each night for four weeks running from February’s First Friday through the March First Friday.
Cash prizes for the 2016 winners:
Cash prizes were provided for the best three designs chosen by a panel of judges and by popular voting through the Arts Council website and “The Burg,” a division of the News & Advance Newspaper.
Chosen by panel of judges:
- 1st place ($300): The limitation of the body is not the limitation of the spirit, by Bartertown Bobby Fuller
- 2nd place ($150): Dancer, by Susan Saandholland
- 3rd place ($50): Imagination, by Paul Clements
Chosen by popularity vote:
- First place: $300: Making the world a better place, by Girl Scouts Troop 88 / Lynchburg Campbell Service Unit / Virginia Skyline Council
- Second place: $150: The limitation of the body is not the limitation of the spirit, by Bartertown Bobby Fuller
- Third place: $50: Luminary Imagination cubes (Nebula, DNA& String Theory), by Tayte Soerensen-Roberts
